Summary, etc. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, is India’s new criminal code, replacing the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Introduced on August 11, 2023, and later revised, the BNS Act aims to modernize the criminal justice system by updating offences, increasing penalties, and including recommendations from a parliamentary committee.<br/>Ratanlal and Dhirajlal: The Indian Penal Code has long been one of the most trusted and respected legal texts in the country, with a legacy of over a century in print. The current edition is based on The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, which replaces The Indian Penal Code, 1860, and came into effect on 1 July 2024.
