Summary The problem of child labour in India is of colossal proportions. While the percentage of childen in the labour force may be lower than in many other developing countries, the fact remains that India has the largest child labour force in the world. This work, by a committed civil servant who has travelled all over India investigating the problem, sets out and analyzes the oppressive reality captured by the most recent reports on child labour in industries across India, to provide a macro-perspective of the nature and scale of the problem, and what this means in human and economic terms.
