Summary:
This book containing 18 essays contributed by Goa-based scholars and students of Goan history provides a sort of menu of assorted dishes, ranging from pre-Portuguese religious and cultural life of Goa to the contemporary issues of freedom-struggle and gold-smuggling. In between there is a wide range of themes covering relations with some native and foreign neighbours, international maritime trade, including slave-trade, some out-standing personalities in Goan history, and sources and suggestions for further research. Many of these essays throw new light on Goan past, while a few even cast doubts on some prevailing views in Goan historiography
