Summary:
Without information, people cannot adequately ex- ercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens. Gov- ernment information is a national resource. Neither the particular Government of the day nor public offi- cials create information for their own benefit. This in- formation is generated for the purposes related to the legitimate discharge of their duties, office, and for service of the public for whose benefit the institutions of Government exist. The Right to Information is expected to improve the quality of decision-making by public authorities, in both policy and administrative matters, by remov- ing unnecessary secrecy surrounding the decision- making process. This book is all about the Right to Information for a common reader in general and for the legal profes- sionals in particular, and aims at making them aware about the legislative provisions at the national and international level.
